WELCOME TO THE PROFESSIONALS NETWORKING FOR CAREGIVERS, a committee composed of organizations in the Montreal health and social service network whose goal is to empower professionals to support and help caregivers with the challenges they face in their caregiving roles. Currently, approximately 1 million Quebecers provide ongoing support to a family member or friend with a physical, cognitive, or mental health condition. As babyboomers age, this number is likely to soar. The invaluable contributions of uncompensated caregivers are the backbone of our health and social service system, as they help to improve the quality of life of seniors, adults and children while saving the public system billions of dollars a year. Caregivers require support, services, respite and recognition to be able to maintain their own physical, emotional, social and financial well-being. The member organizations of the PNC are collectively working to respond to these needs.
With chapters on everything from assessing caregivers' needs to how therapeutic models can be applied to counselling with caregivers, this guide is a "how-to" manual on psychosocial intervention with caregivers. Case studies and reflection exercises enhance the hands-on approach to the topic, making it a precious tool for anyone interested in psychosocial intervention.
